Chamatkari chadar & vastra
When the sacred body of Dada Gurudev Shri Jinadattasuri was consigned to the funeral pyre, a divine miracle occurred – one never seen or heard of before. While his physical form was consumed by the fire, the garments he wore remained completely untouched. Neither the robe, nor the upper cloth, nor even the face cloth (muhapatti) was burnt. Witnessing this wonder, the gathered devotees were filled with awe. At that moment, a celestial voice proclaimed,
“These chamatkari vastra shall forever protect the Jain Sangh from calamities.”
It is said that Dada Jinadattasuri then took divine rebirth in the celestial realm of Saudharma Devlok, in the Takkalak Viman.
History records that the chamatkari vastra, through divine power, were transported to the Jain temple in Patan. Centuries later, when a severe epidemic struck Jaisalmer, the king ordered that Dada Gurudev’s garments be brought from Patan. Water sanctified by contact with these garments was sprinkled throughout the city, and the epidemic was miraculously eradicated.
Since then, the Chamatkari Vastra of Dada Gurudev has been reverently preserved in the Gyan Bhandar (scriptural treasury) of Jaisalmer, continuing to be a symbol of his eternal grace and divine protection.
A Glimpse of the Chamatkari Vastra
The chamatkari vastra of Dada Gurudev offers a living reminder of his divine presence. Even today, devotees who are blessed with a glimpse of this holy relic feel a profound sense of peace and devotion awaken within them. The sight of the Chadar evokes faith, purity, and reverence – as though Dada Gurudev himself were bestowing his compassionate gaze upon all who come before it.
